Hema 08

I am rather fond of these little Hema nail polishes. They come in many different colours, both conventional and more fun ones. Some of my friends like these because they come in small bottles (7 ml). This polish is bright blue creme, and has a really nice formula, so this was just two coats. The wear is also decent. Overall, this is a cute polish even if the colour is not that unique.

Ramblings etc.

True story: Yesterday some kids came trick-or-treating at 11 pm. It's a pity that I just took off my skull make up a few minutes before that. Those kids said "candy or your life" in a really flat tone and proceeded to argue when I told them it wasn't Halloween yet.

Today I barely had any time to think, let alone blog. My dad has been asking me to bake a specific kind of bread that he remembers from his youth. So I finally caved in and it turned out that the recipe is extremely time consuming and specific. Let's just say that I started it last night and only finished it a couple of hours ago. It seems that people had way too much free time on their hands 30-40 years ago. All the kneading, waiting, kneading some more... In the end I produced a nice-looking loaf, but it took such a long time!

Also in between all of the baking, I was helping my mum collect all the fallen leaves. That's probably one of the most mind-numbing jobs. We've been at it for days and there are still more leaves every day.

Here is the sight that greets me every morning. Felix, the laziest cat in the world, doesn't appreciate that I get up early when he wants to keep on sleeping, that I turn on the lights etc.

Also my conservative I-only-wear-pale-pink mum has been rocking red and gold shatter look on her nails a few days ago. And today she has pale green holo on (China Glaze L8R G8R).

China Glaze In Awe Of Amber

Hey everyone! For some reason I am absolutely exhausted today and it is not yet 7 o'clock. I've had way too many lectures today and I there isn't even anything fun to do - my best friend is away visiting her boyfriend, and another friend is slaving away for the benefit of one company abroad. So it is my blog and some movie for me.
Today I am going to show you one of the polishes I got as a present from my parents. In Awe Of Amber is a sort of gold copper colour, it almost looks like a foil but it isn't. Also it looks nothing like most amber (I should know, amber is a local thing here), but I appreciate the effort. I used three coats in the photos, but you can use just two, it will just look more sheer.
This is part of the "We Adorn You" set and there is something slightly funky that I've discovered. It has 8 nail polishes and most say 14ml on the bottle apart from three, including this one. You can see that it says 19ml on the bottle, and all the 19ml polishes looked slightly less full that the rest. Now, I have no clue at all whether China Glaze has ever had polishes with 19 ml in them, they bottles don't look any different to the 14ml ones, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

OPI DS Glamour

This is actually what I wore on my birthday a few weeks ago. DS Glamour is awesomeness in a bottle. Usually I find that holographic polishes look really boring when there is no sun, but this polish is an exception. Even on a cloudy day the holo effect is visible, it's just when it is sunny it pops much more. This needed only two coats, the formula is great and it dries super fast. In terms of wear it also did very well, it lasted 3+ days with no chipping. I think this polish cured my phobia of blue nail polish.
I know that this polish is rather old and is quite hard to find. Apparently not so where I live. I got it at my local shop, and they still have more left. Now I have my eye set on DS Original.

Precision - Can You Keep A Secret?

Why have I never heard of Precision nail polishes before? Thanks to my friend now I have tried one of them. This is Can You Keep A Secret? (P430), and for me it is the epitome of hot pink nail polish. Well, I love the name and the colour of this polish. The formula was ok, but not that great. It is rather thick, but at the same time manages to be slightly patchy. This is just two coats, but it could use another one. I didn't add a third coat because then it would look to lumpy. The wear was great, though. I wore this polish for four days with just minimal tip wear.

Edit: I've looked at the bottle and it is produced by Lamoon Beauty in the US and the polishes are
Toluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP free.

Nail Tek Marooned, and naked nails ahead

This week has been too long and exhausting, so nice to sleep in on a Saturday! It's just after 3 p.m. yet it looks like dusk already. This is actually one of the polishes my parents got me for my birthday earlier this month. My dad was especially against my ever growing nail polish obsession to begin with, but I guess after my mum joined the dark side, he just gave up.
I've only tried Nail Tek base coat before, and did not really like it, so this was the first coloured polish I tried, and I actually rather like it. It must be the colour. I know it is not that original and can probably find dozens that look the same, but it's dark, it's red, it only needs 2 coats, it dries quickly on me and I like it. One thing that I don't particularly like it the shape and size of the bottle. It's taller and thinner than for example Orly or China Glaze and it's not that comfortable to use, but I suppose it is just a matter of getting used to it. The shape of the bottle also means that the brush is long (just to compare the cap and the brush is the same length as the entire height of OPI bottle).

I was asked to show my nails without polish a few times now. So now seemed like a good time. They are not that yellow and not too short. After breaking a few nails, I filed them off completely, shorter than they've ever been. Below they are after about two and a half weeks, not too bad.

OPI Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not

These days I'm totally rocking the "two-pants-two-sweaters-&-wooly- socks" look at home, as it's just freezing. Every year my lovely seaside resort town is the last to get any heating, so we're keeping warm in any way possible. I've also already taken out all my scarves, hats and gloves. I love gloves because usually my hands cold ant time of the year.
Today I have for you guys an older polish that I like. This is from 2008 and it is as lovely as ever. Louvre me, Louvre me Not is a cross between pink and purple with plenty of that juicy grape shimmer. Just lovely! I think this was three coats, but you can easily get away with two. On me it doesn't last as long as the more recent OPI polishes, but it is still about two-three days.

Barry M Bright Purple

What is a girl to do when it is +3 degrees outside? Of course put on a bright summery nail polish. That is exactly what I did - I used two coats of Barry M nail paint 303 called Bright Purple. It is a really nice colour, kind of reminds me of of orchids. It is just bright enough to be interesting but not so bright that it is over the top. I like this polish, just as i like other Barry M polishes I've tried. They are great fun, are inexpensive, and the quality is very good. Plus the range of colours is just great. Oh, and on me their polishes last for 3-4 days.

Catrice 490 Iron Mermaiden

A couple of weeks ago I broke a few of my nails while moving and filed them all down to basically nothing. So I was going through the swatches I have, and found this. I'm astonished by how long my nails are here. As for the polish, well I have a couple of these duochromes, that look similar but are not totally identical. Well, most of them kind of remind me of mould, not in a bad way but just colour-wise.
This one applies fine, if somewhat sheer. The first coat was particularly sheer, but it builds up nicely, this is three coats. I actually quite like this polish, the colour is interesting, I think it would be flattering on different skin tones. On me it wears for an average of three days.

Essence #50 Irreplaceable

You know it's autumn when you only manage to take one decent picture a day and have to run around the house to catch any glimpse of sunlight and to be on stand by for when the rain stops. I am already starting to dread the next 5+ months when everything will be drained of colour and everything will look grey, the sky, the ground and even the air.
Today I have for you guys a really ordinary-looking polish, but it isn't. It is a sort of neutral beige with a hint of grey, but mixed in is a ton of tiny light gold flakies. This needed just two coats. It also wears surprisingly well for a polish that doesn't coast a whole lot - three or four days for me. Also I think this is one of those cases when my photos don't do the product justice, it looks so much better in real life.
Polishes like this make me earn for more Essence products, but unfortunately they are not available at all where I live :(

China Glaze Meteor Shower

Hey guys! Finally I can show you this, China Glaze Meteor Shower. I'm just drooling over this polish, it's so beautiful. No, scratch that, it is not just beautiful, this is probably the most beautiful polish I've ever owned or tried. Yes, I like it that much! Meteor Shower is packed with lots and lots of different colourful and iridescent glitter. It reminds me of the night sky. This needed just two coats, but it dries bumpy from all the glitter. Normally it doesn't matter to me at all, but in this case I used a few coats of top coats. I can wear it either way really, it is still stunning to me.

I also love how it shifts colour in different light sources. Sometimes the base colour is more prominent, and in other cases it is the glitter that pops out!

OPI Get Me To The Taj On Time

A friend gave me this polish to try. Sometimes I like to wear such muted colours, they can be very lady-like. This polish came out in 2008 and has a pretty pearly shimmer, and it it is rather sheer. Here I am wearing four coats. All because a smaller number of coats looks really uneven. It's very frustrating. Compared to this polish, the newer OPIs have a much better formula. Honestly, I don't have enough patience to put 4 coats on, just because it increases the likelihood of smudging the polish.

Pre-birthday shopping

Tomorrow is my birthday, so it seems a reason as good as any to shop for nail polish and get a few lemmings. I'm really good at justifying for myself why I should get a certain polish or three :) Some of these I got last week and some today.

China Glaze Meteor Shower, Kaleidoscope Him Out, OPI DS Glamour.

And here I keep saying that I'm not a fan of blue polishes!
Meteor Shower is a gorgeous glitter! Reminds me of a night sky. Now, I showed you Kaleidoscope Him Out previously when my friend got it. I figured that I would regret not getting it while the local shop still has it. I think it is the only one from that collection that is left. DS Glamour I have wanted for a while now, but somehow couldn't persuade myself to spend that amount of money on just one polish. I must say it looks gorgeous in the bright electric light, so I cannot wait to see it in bright sunlight.

OPI Lincoln Park At Midnight, Diva of Geneva, China Glaze Jitterbug.

After organizing my stash I am not surprised that I buy berry reds and pinks. So it's not a surprise really that I wanted the first two. Diva of Geneva has been sold out around here for a long time, but I spotted a bottle today and I accidentally found Lincoln park at Midnight. I got Jitterbug last week when China Glaze was 20% off here.
