My Perfect Nude

Whenever I get a real desire to have neutral nail colour, I go on the hunt for the perfect nude polish that both matches and flatters my skin tone. Turns out that it is not easy, not easy at all. Some shades look terrible with my pale skin, others are just too dark/pink/yellow. So I have amassed a large number of neutrals that are not quite right.
But I think that I have finally found my perfect neutral shade, and I'm even happier that it was gift = happy accident.
So the perfect nude for me is ... OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh. The fact that it is easy to apply is yet another bonus, it is so creamy that I can get away with one thick coat, but here I'm wearing two thin coats.

China Glaze FYI

From the outset FYI seems like a really boring colour. It's pale and neutral and beige. It is also slightly holographic which changes things completely. This is one of those polishes that is perfect for all those occasions when a bright green or blue polish is just inappropriate. Two coats are enough for complete coverage. The holographic effect is not very strong, but still noticeable.

Barefoot Rainbow

Sometimes when I wear dark or bright polishes for a long time I get really tired of them. That's when I reach for the most boring and neutral colours in my stash. That happened to me the other week, and I randomly chose a polish which was OPI Barefoot in Barcelona. I had totally forgotten that with my skin tone it looks absolutely hideous until it was on my nails. Of course I was too lazy to take it off and start again. I could try to rectify the situation with either glitter of a crackle polish. I chose glitter in the for of OPI Rainbow Connection.

Also my cat is a horrible poser. He always wants to be in the centre of attention :)

Essence #50 Irreplaceable

You know it's autumn when you only manage to take one decent picture a day and have to run around the house to catch any glimpse of sunlight and to be on stand by for when the rain stops. I am already starting to dread the next 5+ months when everything will be drained of colour and everything will look grey, the sky, the ground and even the air.
Today I have for you guys a really ordinary-looking polish, but it isn't. It is a sort of neutral beige with a hint of grey, but mixed in is a ton of tiny light gold flakies. This needed just two coats. It also wears surprisingly well for a polish that doesn't coast a whole lot - three or four days for me. Also I think this is one of those cases when my photos don't do the product justice, it looks so much better in real life.
Polishes like this make me earn for more Essence products, but unfortunately they are not available at all where I live :(

OPI Get Me To The Taj On Time

A friend gave me this polish to try. Sometimes I like to wear such muted colours, they can be very lady-like. This polish came out in 2008 and has a pretty pearly shimmer, and it it is rather sheer. Here I am wearing four coats. All because a smaller number of coats looks really uneven. It's very frustrating. Compared to this polish, the newer OPIs have a much better formula. Honestly, I don't have enough patience to put 4 coats on, just because it increases the likelihood of smudging the polish.

OPI Rose Petals

I actually got this polish for my mum. She wanted a new polish, and would have probably got her usual pinky-beige frosty nightmare. I got this for her instead. OPI Rose Petals is quite a nice, a very neutral creme color. Here I'm wearing three coats, but you can wear just two easily, it will be just less opaque. I like the formula of this one, it's just right and not streaky, plus it dries quickly. I thought I wouldn't like the color of this one, but it's nice when I want a break from reds and dark colors.
