A few weeks ago I took a break from writing my thesis to g9o and see what the local beauty exhibition had to offer this year. I knew in advance that the company I get the majority of my polishes from (at least OPI, Orly, China Glaze, SpaRitual, and now Cuccio Colour) were not going to be there, so it seemed that it might not be worth going.
In the end I ended up getting quite a lot of things. The most surprising was the Jessica Hologram Chic duo.
I will be showing the polishes over the coming weeks, but for now I can say that I love the nail buffer - it leaves my nails super shiny and the white polish by Jessica is easily my favourite white polish now.

Baltic Beauty 2012
This weekend me and a friend went to the Baltic Beauty 2012 exhibition. We spent some 3 hours there, had a really good time. Laughed a lot, especially at creepy displays and products on offer (a photo of your aura, anyone?).
I didn't really take any photos since the displays were pretty much the same as last year. Apparently this season fake tan, curly hair and mad nail design are in. I did find some very cool products. It turned out that one local company stock Layla polishes. Not only that, but during the exhibition the polishes were 30% off. I couldn't resist. This year was the the first time that Oniks Beta, the local OPI distributor, managed to bring new collections in time for the exhibition - I've seen James Bond and Germany collection.
I walked away with Cuccio cuticle oil, Orly Miss Conduct, Layla 05 Jade Groove, 15 Misty Blush, 07 Ocean Rush, 11 Shock Pink, OPI On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Every Month is Oktoberfest.

Here's a sneak peak of Layla Holographic 15 Misty Blush. Beyond awesome.

General Update
The last couple of weeks has been insane in terms of expanding my stash. For one thing my parents got me polishes from my wishlist as a Christmas\New Year gift. Amazing!!!!

China Glaze: Snow Globe, Cha Cha Cha, Riveter Rouge, Let's Groove, Mahoganie, Re-fresh Mint, Medallion, Doll House

OPI: Jade is the New Black, Manicurist of Seville, Lucky Lucky Lavender, Warm & Fozzie, Meep-Meep-Meep, DS Temptation, William Tell Me About OPI, Rainbow Connection, Russian Navy Suede
Also, gorgeous Essence polishes appeared, and after looking up the swatches online I don't think I could have passed up these. These three are the only ones that were left of the Vampire collection, Gold Old Buffy, Hunt Me If You Can, and True Love. I suppose I should try to find the other two colours as well.

I also stumbled upon the Depend polishes in one shop. The colours were in general really boring, and I only picked up who shades, 204 is a dark blue shimmer and 58 is an ugly lavender shimmer with holographic particles. I also picked up Pepe's Purple Passion and Urban Night.
I've already tried Pepe's Purple Passion and it has a very interesting and weird formula, it's like a paste, and while it is liquid, it doesn't run at all.

And last but not least, I've been remunerated for doing my internship, not enough to do anything useful with it, so I went dusty hunting and spent most of it on these five beauties. I was surprised that DS Amethyst is not that close to DS Original as I thought, and Glacier Bay Blues is

11 Nov
When I'm upset or am in a terrible mood I either shop or bake and drown my mood in pies.
Yesterday I shopped. Surprisingly, Essence products appeared around here recently. Upon further investigation it turned out that there are only Colour & Go polishes, in fairly boring creme shades. Disappointment all around. Anyhow, I only wanted to get a top coat, but went home with a top coat, dry drops and 7 polishes. Also stopped by my usual shop and new to me China Glazes were there. I also included here OPI DS Original I got last week.
I have been going back and forth between wanting to get it and not for months now. On the one hand it is usually difficult to find, it is on the expensive side, on the other it's holo, and I keep thinking "what if I don't buy it and it'll be gone". So there, now I have it!
As there is currently no sun, I've swatched them on a nail wheel and here they are with a flash and in natural light.
Left to right the polishes are, all 2 coats:
China Glaze Midtown Magic
China Glaze Trendsetter
Essence 68 High Spirits
Essence 56 Got A Secret
Essence 05 Sweet As Candy
Essence 41 Very Berry
Essence 26 Break Through
OPI DS Original
Essence 53 You Belong To Me
Essence 76 Hard To Resist

Saturday hell
I mentioned yesterday that my Saturday was out of the ordinary. I was at the crack of dawn, since I had a lot to do. First I had to post a polish for a swap, and the visit to the post office early in the morning was a total bitch-fest. I have no idea why, but every time I need something at the post office, the workers (all women) go out of their way to be as unhelpful as possible. This time was no exceptions; in short, they refused to mail the package, citing that the mail does not ship any liquids. No liquids, my ass. I'm not even going to mention that I have sent polishes before, received perfume by post last month, or that there's no 'no liquids' info on the national post web site. The best part - when my dad went to post the same package, not only did he not encounter any problems, but he was not even asked what was in it. [In my family we lovingly refer to this whole situation as class hatred]
Anyway, after that I actually had to go to the university. A few weeks back my university together with the British Council announced an English language competition. Well, I like English well enough, and answered the preliminary test just for fun. Lo and behold, I made it to the final. That's where the catch lies; each person had to make a speech on a specific topic and I don't enjoy public speaking, I get really nervous and my vocabulary goes down the drain.
Yesterday was no exception, plus I had to go first. Oh dear! When I finished and took my seat I nearly burst into tears, that's how bad I thought it went. Many speeches later I didn't feel as bad, but still was ashamed at my attempt at public speaking.
Apparently the judges looked at other factors other than nervousness, so when they announced the results I won!! Call me totally gobsmacked! I won a whole bag of British Council goodies and a Kindle. I love the Kindle!

This brings the number of Kindls we have to three, one for each family member. I love them!! They are so handy and we all love reading.

Also I don't believe that I shared what my parents gave me for my birthday last month - lots of polishes. A lot of them are my mum's taste, like pale ones and pinks, but she also picked out some more unusual shades. I usually pass by all the copper and brown shades, so I was surprised that I really like how Suzi Loves Cowboys looks on me.

Baltic Beauty 2011 Exhibition
Hey guys! How are you all doing? My Saturday has been way too long. Instead of the usual stay at home, lounge on the couch, go for a walk routine, today was full of stuff, but I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
One of the things I did today was visit the biggest local beauty expo, Baltic Beauty. It runs for three days and attracts a lot of people, both the participants and the onlookers. I used to go every year, but I haven't been in the past five or so years - the all looked the same etc. Last year my friend invited me to go but I just couldn't be bothered, and later regretted it. So this year I told myself in advance that I had to go. I spent a couple of hours wandering around.

The exhibition is held in two huge exhibition halls. One focuses on the "World of beautiful face and body" and the other on the "World of beautiful hair". In general the exhibition focuses on four things - beauty products, professional nail products, equipment, and education.

If I had to describe the whole exhibition in one word, I would go with either rubbish or pathetic. Yeah, not good at all. There were a lot of people, all dashing back and forth maniacally. There was little logic in how it was laid out and how the shops/companies were grouped together.
Yes, I am picky (which earned me the nickname Picky Vicky) when it comes to shopping, and there were a few things that annoyed me. For one, how is it possible for a company counter to run out of product half way through the busiest day????? I left at 3pm, while the exhibition is open till 8.
Secondly, I loath with a passion bad customer service of any kind. So when a sales person starts arguing with me that they don't have glow in the dark polish (Ghoulish Glow I'm looking at you), it just leaves a bad aftertaste. Also at the Misa stand I was told "go there" with a vague hand gesture, when I was interfering with the sales girl chat with some friends. That just makes me not want to spend any money there ever again.
Usually the prices are also lower at trade fairs that in the shops, not this time. The difference was so insignificant ~1$ that I'd rather pay more and get the polishes in peace and quiet at the shop.
Below is the stand for the shop where I get most of my nail polishes and other supplies. They had by far the biggest floor area and a lot of sales people. There were a few things I wanted to get like the China Glaze Ghoulish Glow and some acetone. It was a pity that they did not manage to get the OPI Touring America collection, but I knew this is advance (they couldn't get it through customs in time). The range of polishes that were there was also smaller that in the shops. I understand that the whole event is targeted at ordinary people who might buy a polish or two, still it means that I walked away with just one polish instead of ten like I could. One thing that was selling like hotcakes were the shatters. The majority of conversations went like this "oooh, what is that??? How do yo use it?" and ended with women walking away with shatter polishes.

They had these shelves for different brands to showcase different products, which I thought was really nice. They had one for each brand they sell - OPI, Orly, China Glaze, SpaRitual, Nail Tek and Color Club (no polishes, mostly just design etc.)

Also, judging by the majority of participants and businesses, we are stuck in 2004. Fake nails, fake hair and fake tan rules the world, apparently. Also they we dozens of places were selling all sorts of shiny things like nail files, hair accessories and jewellery, a.k.a. rhinestone puke-fest.

There were very few interesting or nice looking stands. It seems weird to me, as not only can you attract more people this way but also it is the "face" of your business.

The photo below sums up the whole event perfectly - crazy hair & the kid's face is precious.

In the end I only got a few things. I wanted the nail wheels, because I can't find them in any shops here. I also got the China Glaze glow in the dark polish, had to fight for it more likely. I was disappointed that Inglot did not bring any flakies, I was looking forward to getting a few that I haven't got yet. Instead I got #342, a wine purple shimmer. I also stumbled on a shop selling some Jessica polishes. They had only about 30 polishes, mostly pinks and reds, so I chose two that were more interesting - Blue Diamond and Sunshine. These are my first Jessica polishes, I like how heavy and substantial they feel in the hand. Also the price was good, approximately 5$ for each. The nicest thing that came out of the whole thing, is that I found a new shop that carries some Jessica polishes, so I will have to check it out some time.

Pre-birthday shopping
Tomorrow is my birthday, so it seems a reason as good as any to shop for nail polish and get a few lemmings. I'm really good at justifying for myself why I should get a certain polish or three :) Some of these I got last week and some today.

China Glaze Meteor Shower, Kaleidoscope Him Out, OPI DS Glamour.
And here I keep saying that I'm not a fan of blue polishes!
Meteor Shower is a gorgeous glitter! Reminds me of a night sky. Now, I showed you Kaleidoscope Him Out previously when my friend got it. I figured that I would regret not getting it while the local shop still has it. I think it is the only one from that collection that is left. DS Glamour I have wanted for a while now, but somehow couldn't persuade myself to spend that amount of money on just one polish. I must say it looks gorgeous in the bright electric light, so I cannot wait to see it in bright sunlight.

OPI Lincoln Park At Midnight, Diva of Geneva, China Glaze Jitterbug.
After organizing my stash I am not surprised that I buy berry reds and pinks. So it's not a surprise really that I wanted the first two. Diva of Geneva has been sold out around here for a long time, but I spotted a bottle today and I accidentally found Lincoln park at Midnight. I got Jitterbug last week when China Glaze was 20% off here.

I'm baaack!

Hey everyone! I'm finally back from my holiday in the Netherlands. It's good to be home! I've really enjoyed myself, though the weather could have been nicer. As you can see I went totally crazy in terms on buying nail polish. I was aiming at getting brands that are not available where I live and getting some polishes that are on my wishlist. I wasn't planning on getting so many, but what can I say, I'm weak. I've tried some of them already and I wish I got some more of the American Apparel ones, I like the quality and the formula. I will be showing you the swatches soon.

I've been really, really bad...
Last week the shop where I get most of my polishes got the delivery of a lot of OPI polishes. It's been a long time coming, since the last collection we had was the Burlesque one. So now they brought the Katy Perry one, all the shatters, Texas, Pirates, the soft shades, the summer one, and some other miscellaneous polishes. Is it any wonder I went crazy and got 10 nail polishes?!
So here are the polishes I got:

Silver Shatter
Catherine The Grape
Shorts Story
Come To Poppy
I Lily Love You

Not Like The Movies
Spark De Triomphe
Golden Rainbow I already have one, but another can't hurt
Skull & Glossbones
Steady As She Rose
Now I can tick off some polishes from my wish list.

Hauls
The last couple of weeks have been really great in terms of acquiring new polishes. First of all my dad went on business to London and came back with lots of polishes for me and my mum. That was something I did not expect, plus I was really pleasantly surprised by his color choice, mostly because they were not neutral pale pinks (for the most part).
First of all, there are the Revlon polishes. Sadly, we don't have Revlon here so this is great. There's a base and top coat, which I really like so far, plus three scented polishes and one light pink one.

L-R: top coat, Pink Nude, Ocean Breeze, Passion Fruit, Beach, base coat.
Next are the polishes that are meant for my mum, the three Givenchy Vernis Please! polishes. They are only 5.5ml, but cost an arm and a leg.

L-R: Candide Peach, Acid Orange, and Vintage Garnet.
I also got three YSL La Laque polishes. I'm just drooling over them! The one on the right is called extreme purple, but I somehow just don't see it.

L-R: Tulipe Noire, Fuchsia, and Pourpre Extreme
Apart from that I also got some polishes on my own. How could I not - the local shop was having 20% off OPI. I'm hoping it means that they will have the new stock in the for of the Texas collection or even the Pirate one.

L-R: Strawberry Margarita, Brand New Skates, Baguette Me Not, Louvre Me Louvre Me Not, Bastille My Heart, China Glaze Ruby Pumps, Orly Here Comes Trouble
I got the small Orly polish to see if I liked how it looked, and by trying it on just a few nails I love it! I'll have to get the full bottle and the purple one as well. It looks so gorgeous!
