Blue Polishes etc.

My life has been manic the last couple of weeks. Last Thursday was my last lecture ever for the foreseeable future. I hadn’t realised that until yesterday. This week I have exams every single day.
Also I’ve found that my cat hates women in skirts. This mo
rning he looked at me in terror as if I were an alien and ran away.

My mum has pointed out that we have more nail polish than polish than we need (again), while I proceeded to make a point that we don’t with blue polishes that I don’t wear a lot of. My quote of “I have no more than 10 blue polishes” came back to bite me.

When I painted all of my blues on a nail wheel I was proven SO wrong.

Top row look more purple but I would call them blue. All polishes are two coats.

I now realize that I forgot to add a few polishes to the wheels, off the top of my head I’m missing H&M Peppermit Fusion, OPI Midnight Blue Glitter, one of my frankens, and probably something else. I am also happy that there aren’t too many dupes.

China Glaze Drenched In Diamonds

Normally when I am faced with a nail polish that even has a hint of frost to it, I run a mile. To me it looks really dated, like the 80s (not that I remember the 80s). But in the case of this polish I had to at least try it as it was a gift.
I can't say that I hate this polish, but I also don't like it. Let's say I don't dislike it as much as I thought I would. I think it's because the polish looks like snow, it is a sort of silver white colour, but damn this polish is sheer, sheer, sheer! This is three coats and you can still see my nails. It does apply quite evenly, so I would use it for layering in the future.

China Glaze Trendsetter

For now I only got two polishes form the China Glaze's autumn collection, this and Midtown Magic. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this polish, it's totally not "me". It is certainly a very interesting colour, but I find it hard to call it pretty, it's both ugly and pretty. I like that it has this lit-from-within quality to it. The colour is the most impossible shade to describe. It's a cross between green and yellow, with a hint of mustard. That's the most pleasant description I'm going with. The formula is perfect, it needs just 2 coats.

OPI Strawberry Margarita

There has been a lack of pink and red polish posts on my blog lately. And since I like reds and pinks it's time to rectify that. Here is Strawberry Margarita, a sort of basic bright pink creme polish. The weather around here is grey and gloomy, so this pink is a perfect cheerful and happy colour that reminds me of summer. This was two medium thick coats, but you can get away with three thin coats; it dries fairly quickly and lasts about three days on me.

OPI DS Original

I have to admit it, I'm weak. After yet another stop at my local polish store, the call of this beauty "pick me! pick me!" got too strong. I could not resist any longer. I'm not totally happy with these photos, there's only occasional weak autumn sun so the holo effect is stronger in reality. This was three thin coats, and they dried really quickly. I love this polish, it is super pretty but the best thing is that the holographic effect is visible even when it is cloudy and indoors. The wear time for me is about 3 days.
Look how gorgeous it looks in the bottle:

YSL La Laque 128 Black Indigo

I am proven time and time again that men are very good at picking nail polishes that have something special about them. The same case happened with this beauty. YSL 128 Noir Indigo is an almost black polish that has some pink and purple shimmer. The shimmer is much more visible in the bottle, but less so on the nails, think along the lines of Chanel Vendetta.
Here I am wearing two coats. I like this polish a lot, it's a bit of a pity that when there is no direct sunlight it looks just black. The fact that the shimmer occasionally disappears makes this polish extremely difficult to photograph. Also I wish there was more of this polish than just 6ml, it's too pretty to be this small :)

OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys

I've bee a bit lazy with regards to my blog recently. Friday was the Independence Day here, which means a national holiday, so no studies or lectures. Yeah! Also as part of the celebration hundreds of candles were placed along the roads where I live, it looked gorgeous!
I was also somehow coerced into going to see the latest Twilight film, I'm still confused how that happened. Oh. my. It was bad bad bad. Trying to erase the image of it from my mind. I spent the rest of the weekend reading an exorbitant amount of academic articles on globalization for a class I have on Monday. That was a boring weekend.

I did not expect to like this at all, I mostly expected to hate it. I've always had this notion that brown polishes are dull and unimaginative. When I wear nail polish I like bright, fun colours, and brown is as far away from that as possible.
This polish was a gift and when I first put it on... I loved it! I like how it looks and how it feels, I think it goes fairly well with my skin tone. This is two coats and it goes on really well, dries quickly and wears fairly well.

OPI Jade Is The New Black

I've been eyeing this polish for as long as I can remember. You see, green is my favorite colour ever, but my appreciation for everything green doesn't often translate into love for green polish. So I was somewhat hesitant to get a polish I might find too bright for me to wear. And I didn't, instead my friend got this polish and I swatched her bottle.
Jade is the new Black is a bright green creme, and while I love how this polish looks on other people, I hate how it looks on me. I don't like how it looks with my skin tone, plus it is way too vivid for my life. And it is a real pity that I can't carry it off, the polish is truly lovely. The formula is perfect, it covers in two coats and is smooth, shiny and dries really fast. A dream in a bottle.

Inglot 342

Hey everyone! I hope you had a good weekend. Today I have for you a polish I picked up at a recent beauty exhibition. I chose this polish purely because of the colour. Inglot had so many polishes in an array of colours that it was difficult to choose one. I went for the darker berry range that had some interest, so I got number 342. Well, this is my first Inglot polish, not counting the two flakie top coats I have. The colour is a mix between purple and black with a bit of pink mixed in, as well as a huge amount of tiny flakies that shine pink and green.
In one word this polish is gorgeous! The formula is fine as well, but there is one thing I hate about it - the brush. It's small and short, with hard bristles and doesn't fan out, like at all. I might as fell use a wooden stick to paint my nails. I have no idea if it is just my bottle, because the brushes in my Inglot flakie polishes are perfectly fine. Because of the brush the polish needed 3 coats. The first one was terribly patchy in some places and almost opaque in others. Three coat polish is not that big of a deal, but with a nice formula it's just a pity.

OPI Spark De Triomphe

I've been dreaming about this polish when it first appeared, but I was almost sure that it would never be sold here, as we never get the duo packs. But one day as if by magic Spark De Triomphe was sold on it's own. I'm so happy!!! It's sparkly and glittery, what not to like! Here in the photos I have two coats on. You can still see my nails, but I'm not bothered by that. I love this polish!

All this week my our hasn't been feeling all that well. At the first sign of trouble we took him to the vet and it turns out that he has a bad bladder infection. Apparently in his case it is likely to be hereditary. Also we were told by the vet that our cat is too fat and needs to lose weight, so he's now on a specific amount of special dry food a day. He's distinctly not impressed, as he's used to fresh meat with just a bit of dry food on the side. So now he's boycotting all our attempts to feed him healthier.
Felix has already had his fair share of health troubles, he's probably the only cat that doesn't land on his feet. When he was 5 months old, he fell off the table in his sleep and broke both his legs. Anyway, one of the titanium pins was even left inside.

11 Nov

When I'm upset or am in a terrible mood I either shop or bake and drown my mood in pies.
Yesterday I shopped. Surprisingly, Essence products appeared around here recently. Upon further investigation it turned out that there are only Colour & Go polishes, in fairly boring creme shades. Disappointment all around. Anyhow, I only wanted to get a top coat, but went home with a top coat, dry drops and 7 polishes. Also stopped by my usual shop and new to me China Glazes were there. I also included here OPI DS Original I got last week.
I have been going back and forth between wanting to get it and not for months now. On the one hand it is usually difficult to find, it is on the expensive side, on the other it's holo, and I keep thinking "what if I don't buy it and it'll be gone". So there, now I have it!

As there is currently no sun, I've swatched them on a nail wheel and here they are with a flash and in natural light.

Left to right the polishes are, all 2 coats:
China Glaze Midtown Magic
China Glaze Trendsetter
Essence 68 High Spirits
Essence 56 Got A Secret
Essence 05 Sweet As Candy
Essence 41 Very Berry
Essence 26 Break Through
OPI DS Original
Essence 53 You Belong To Me
Essence 76 Hard To Resist

Essence #43 Where Is The Party?

When I was on holiday in Holland and saw all the pretty Essence and Catrice polishes, I've decided to get all the more unusual polishes, and colours that I don't have in my stash. This is one of them #43 Where Is The Party?. This seems to be a relative of Iron Mermaiden, even though the base colours are different. This required only two coats, but you can see some brushstrokes. The thing I like is that when there is no direct sun, which is all the time now, the nails reflect the colour of objects around, which gives the duochrome effect.
